Carl Prather Hargis, 76, of Johnsville, died Monday, November 24, 2003, at his residence. Born May 13, 1927, in Ingalls, the son of the late Lum Harris and Maude Kitchel Hargis, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II, was the retired owner of Hargis Grocery in Johnsville and was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include four sons, Kerry Hargis of Bearden, Larry Hargis of Monticello, Kim Hargis of Warren and Reggie Harris of Hermitage; two brothers, Rev. Klois Hargis of Hamburg and Hurley Hargis of Hermitage; one sister, Ruthie Mae Jackson of Warren; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ferrell Hargis; one son, Rodney Hargis; and one brother, William C. Hargis.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26, at 1:30 p.m. in the Calvary Presbyterian Church with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Johnsville under the direction of Frazer Funeral Home of Warren. Pallbearers were Clay Lowry, Lance Ferrell, Eddie Ferrell, Danny Rainey, Casey Hargis, Sonny Rainey, Scott Sloan and Jeremy Hargis. Honorary pallbearers were Earnie Ferrell, Billy Ferrell and Donny Lowry.
