She is survived by her loving and beloved husband of 67 years, Maurice M. Hassett. Born June 27, 1924 in Philadelphia PA, she was the daughter of the late Edward F. and Catharine Pugh Murray and step-daughter for many years of the late Madeline Murray. She grew up in the Philadelphia area and during World War II served as a hospital nurse's aide. She was a very active member of the Frederick Memorial Hospital Auxiliary where she volunteered for over 45 years as both a hospital receptionist and at the hospital's Select Seconds shop. She also enjoyed both her Garden Club, known as the "Casual Gardeners" and her bowling group and was an avid Notre Dame Football fan. Mary was a devoted and faithful member of Saint Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, Libertytown, for many years. Socially, she and Maury were members of both their Saturday night group for over 40 years and their Wednesday night group. Surviving besides her husband are six children: Richard M. Hassett and companion Lisa Coblentz of Thurmont, Kathleen M. Hassett of Frederick, John M. Hassett and wife Lucy of Baltimore, Barbara H. Mintzell of Annandale, VA, Janet H. Hassett of Walkersville, and Megan H. Krucenski and husband Ken of Monkton, MD. She is also survived by her two beloved daughters-in-law, Laura Hassett and Patricia Hassett, her 22 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Betty Jane Hirschmann and husband James, numerous nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by three sons, Dr. Christopher M. Hassett, Kevin P. Hassett, and Stephen J. Hassett, one brother, Edward Murray, and one sister, Lynn Ann Mautz. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 pm on Tuesday, October 6th at the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 7th at 11:00 am at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 9190 Church Street, Libertytown with Father Jason Worley as the celebrant.
