Margaret Mary Haggerty was born in New Orleans on November 18, 1899 the 6th child of John Jerome Haggerty (1862-1937) and Delia Conroy Haggerty (1863-1938). She choose to live the life of a Catholic nun and was ordained on November 21, 1917 as Sister Cyril of the Carmel Convent in New Orleans. In 1930 she was part of a team of nuns who founded a new Carmelite monastary in Newport, Rhode Island. In 1957 She moved again to a newer convent at Barrington, Rhode Island which overlooks Narragansett Bay. Sister Cyril died on November 3, 1992 at age 92 and was buried at the convent cemetery.

Additional note (2020):
As of October 15, 2020, the sisters' graves at the Barrington Monastery were exhumed and relocated to Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in East Providence, Providence County, Rhode Island
The remaining sisters have sold their monastery.
This monastery cemetery is now Defunct.
