John, the husband of Peggy L. Larimore and the son of June M. Larimore, the dear brother of Thomas A. Larimore of Pomona California, and son of Richard A. Larimore; enlisted in the US Marine Corps on March 30, 1968 in Pittsburg Pennsylvania. He arrived in Vietnam on November 16 where he was assigned for duty and served with H&S Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 3d MARDIV (Rein) FMF.

During the month of November the Battalion was participating in Operation SCOTLAND II in the northwestern portion of Quang Tri Province. On November 24, Company B with attached personnel located a bunker complex just south of the DMZ in the valley adjacent to Hills 550, 580 and as the Marines approached the hidden NVA opened fire. Three Marines were wounded during the fire fight and PFC Larimore was killed by a gunshot wound from the hostile fire.
