Irene Veronica (Bilak) Maikranz, died peacefully at home on January 23, 2010 at 12:42 AM, just shy of her 86th birthday, of natural causes with her son by her side.

Irene was born January 15, 1924 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Michael Bilak and Mary Macinsky, both deceased.

Irene graduated from Technical High School in Scranton in 1941, working for Sylvania Electric assembling radio components during W.W. II and then in the garment industry as a dressmaker for many years. During this time, Irene enjoyed numerous and frequent outings with "The Gang", going to various locations both locally and along the east coast. Irene also spent a great deal of time with her parents, brothers and sisters whom she loved deeply.

In 1956 Irene met, fell in love and married Henry George Maikranz of Scranton and moved to Niagara Falls and raised a family. As the children got older, Irene was employed at Homemakers making draperies for various homes, businesses and corporations and retired many years later to spend more time with Henry.

Irene was an avid gardener who designed beautiful flower beds of many varieties and had an exquisite rose garden. Irene also enjoyed many activities including swimming, horseback riding, bowling and was an excellent dancer as well as a most talented figure skater. Irene possessed a great love of animals, especially for her good friend Linda's dogs, Winston and Oreo and her adoring feline companion Hans.

Irene was the caregiver for her sister, Mary, in excess of 25 years and was faced with many hardships through her life but always persevered with her love and faith in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Irene was truly a grand lady, loving, generous, thoughtful, loyal and will be most sadly missed by all.
