He was born in Ashland Nov. 10, 1948, the son of Joseph L. and Alice (née Gongwer) Davis. He had been a resident of Ashland all of his life.
J.R. had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He had been involved with the Boy Scouts Troop 900 for many years, participated in the Special Olympics and enjoyed roller skating and bowling. J.R. also had always enjoyed summers at Lake Erie in Huron, where he would fish, swim, enjoy barbecues, clam bakes and especially cheeseburgers.
Survivors include his mother, Alice Davis of Ashland; his brother, Bill (Kathy Shull) Davis of Ashland; and his nephew, Billy Davis of Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph L. Davis.
A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, at Heyl Funeral Home, with Pastor Michael Koch officiating. Burial will follow in Ashland Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family one hour before the service at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Heyl Funeral Home, 227 Broad St., Ashland, Ohio 44805 to help defray costs.
