Alpo Marttinen was a colonel in two armies. Born 1908 in Finland, Marttinen served as an officer in the Winter War (1939-40), the Continuation War (1941-44) and the Lapland War (1944-45). For his wartime achievements, Marttinen was awarded as the Knight of Mannerheim Cross (number 163). After the war, Marttinen fled to United States, where he joined the US Army. He retired 1968 as a colonel, and was awarded Legion of Merit. Marttinen died December 20, 1975 in Kansas, USA.
