Douglas Badham Succumbs At 75
Douglas del Lenoy Badham, a resident of Napa since 1930 and office manager of the Wurz Ranches until he became ill four months ago, died this morning at his residence, 1035 Clark Ave. He was 75.
A native of London, England, he emigrated to Canada at the age of 17 and served four years with the famed Royal Canadian Mounted Police. He later practiced veterinary medicine and managed a hunting and fishing club in Canada before enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1916, serving three years overseas.
Following World War I, he and his wife, the former Lillian M. Hofer, farmed for four years near Medicine Hat, Canada, then moved to North Port, Wash., where he was employed by the American Smelting and Refining Co.
The couple came to Vallejo in 1924, where he worked at Tormey for the same firm until 1927 and for Sperry Flour Co. until moving to Napa. He was employed by the California Prune Growers Association and Berglund Tractor Co. until assuming the post with the Wurz Ranches in 1945.
He is survived by six sons and daughters: Dorothy E. Duke and Richard D. Badham of Napa, Jeanne V. Jones and Ada M. Godfrey of Los Angeles, Helen I. Kaiser of Covina and Robert E. Badham of Riviera. Seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three brothers and sisters, the latter in London, also survive.
Strictly private funeral services are pending at the Treadway and Winer Garden Chapel, with inurnment to follow in Tulocay Cemetery.
