Roxie Peaslee Sowers, 84, Burkittsville went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2015. She was the wife of the late William Ausherman Sowers. They were married 59 years. Born in Lneox WV on August 9, 1931, she was a member of the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren, Burkittsville. Roxie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked in the Gordon's Store in Burkittsville and as a cafeteria manager at Burkittsville Elementary School.
Surviving are 3 sons: Phillip and wife Sherry, Burkittsville; Randy and wife Karen, Middletown; Matthew and wife Sheryl, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by a son Douglas William Sowers in 1981.
9 grandchildren: Chad and wife Erin; Heidi and husband Chris; Abigail and husband Anthony; Wil and wife Karena; Jessica and husband Jon; Ben and wife Kate; Jackelyn; James and wife Whitney and Hannah and fiance Zach. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and one brother John K. Peaslee. She was predeceased by her sisters Jean Peaslee Hagan, JoAnn Peaslee Livengood and brothers Paul Peaslee, Donald Peaslee and Lloyd Peaslee.
The family will receive friends Sunday, October 11 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Donald B Thompson Funeral Home, 31 East Main Street, Middletown. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 12 at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren in Burkittsville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Frederick County or the Pleasant View Church of the Brethren.
