Benjamin Y. "Ben" Nichols, 79, of Cassadaga passed away Wednesday (October 7, 2015) in his home.

He was born June 2, 1936 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Benjamin C. and Edith Emerson Nichols.

Ben was a 1955 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1955 to 1958 in Germany as an E4 for the Army Engineers. He co-owned Burnhams Machine Company in Cassadaga from 1963 to 2006.

He was a member of the Cassadaga Post 1280, American Legion serving on the honor guard, the Cassadaga Country Club, Monday Night Golf League of CCC and attended Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church. Ben was a former member of the Sylvan F&AM Masonic Lodge 303.

Ben enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. He enjoyed reading, golfing, hunting, fishing, taking car rides and was a diehard Buffalo Bills Fan.

Surviving are his wife Linnea E. Lawson Nichols, whom he married November 21, 1959 in Sinclairville; three sons: Benjamin Steven Nichols and his wife Denise, Gary Robert Nichols, all of Sinclairville, and Michael Burton Nichols of San Antonio, TX; ten grandchildren: Ben Nichols, Brian Nichols, Krystal (Sean) Carlson, Ross Nichols, John (Destiny) Warner, Jonah (Desiree) Warner, Jace Warner, Zachary Larsen, Heidi Lauer, Grant Lauer; four great-grandchildren: Nataleigh and Delilah Warner, Zachary and Iris Larsen; four brothers: Howard Nichols of Akron, NY, David (Donna) Nichols of Gerry, Oscar (Gladys) Nichols of Ransomville, NY, and Robert (Barb) Nichols of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a sister Vivian Abram of Youngstown, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was also the winter grandfather for Kelly Crandall.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Sara Curthoys and Charlotte Boynton.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Falconer Funeral Home, 44 W. Falconer St., Falconer, NY 14733. The Rev. Mike Vercant of Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sinclairville.

Friends will be received by the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
