CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER LEO F. BUTCHER, 62, who retired from the Army Special Forces in 1974, died Feb. 21, 1995, in Colorado Springs.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Stake, 4955 Meadowland Blvd.
Chief Warrant Officer Butcher was born March 13, 1932, in Salt Lake City to Lloyd Butcher and Margaret Miller.
He was married April 28, 1972, in Elko, Nev., to Phyllis Smith, who survives.
He also is survived by four sons, Leo Jr. of Boyertown, Pa., Ray Lloyd and Charles Dean, both of Phoenix, and Jan-Merlin "The Dude" of Colorado Springs; three daughters, Sandra of Salt Lake City, and Leslie Shaffer and Debbie Young, both of Colorado Springs; two brothers, Ray Eugene and Lloyd, both of Salt Lake City; four sisters, Carrie Jane Kendall of Wickenburg, Ariz., and Phyllis May Mattena, Margie Huntington and Marlene Gates, all of Salt Lake City; and five grandchildren.
Chief Warrant Officer Butcher received a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in public administration from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
He served in the Army from 1949 to 1974 and was awarded numerous citations and medals.
He was a at Wolford Elementary School in Black Forest and was involved in Mountain Man activities. He was a colonel in the Colorado Territorial Volunteer Militia and a member of the Black Forest Sheriff's Posse.
