Mark B. Maharg, 92, of Butler, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 4, 2015 at the Butler Memorial Hospital. He was born May 28, 1923 in Chicora, Pennsylvania to the late John Christy Maharg and Grace Alfretta (Clingensmith) Maharg. Mr. Maharg was a veteran of the United States Army-Air Corp during World War II. He earned a degree in Biology from Grove City College, then went on to earn an Insurance Degree from the SMA of Pittsburgh and also graduated from the Presbyterian Seminary of Pittsburgh. Mr. Maharg was the owner/operator for 35 years of the Maharg Insurance Agency, which was founded by his father. After his retirement in 1987, he continued to work for years later to sell life insurance and as a Financial Advisor and Broker. He was the past president of the National Senate of Presbyterian Churchs and the Butler Kiwanis Club and various other clubs. Mr. Maharg was a member of St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church. Mr. Maharg is survived by five sons, Dennis L. Maharg and his wife Beverly of Lititz, PA, Mark Brian Maharg of Butler, PA, Gary Wayne Maharg and his wife Diane of Lancaster, PA, Dale Edward Maharg and his wife Dee of Conestoga, PA and Eric B. Maharg and his wife Candace of Butler, PA; three daughters, Karen M. Feather of Morgantown, WV, Diane C. Kennedy and her husband Jeff of Butler, PA and Beverly J. Himm and her husband Jeff of Chantilly, VA; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Maharg and his wife Meridith of Odessa, TX, Melvin Maharg and his wife Marie of Cleveland, OH and Randall Maharg and his wife Stella of Butler, PA; one sister, Twyla Meeder of Butler, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Maharg, whom he married February 27, 1946, and who passed away December 5, 2007; one brother, Dean Maharg; and one great-granddaughter, Kiley. Family and friends will be received Thursday, October 8, 2015, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, October 9, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Thompson - Miller Funeral Home, Inc., 124 East North Street, Butler, PA. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 East Jefferson Street Butler, PA with Pastor Merry H. Meloy officiating. Officers and members of the American Legion Post #778 Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 Butler will conduct military honors at the church. Burial will take place in the Brownsdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean Street, Butler, PA 16001 or the Alzheimer's Association of Greater PA, Pittsburgh Office, 1100 Liberty Avenue, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
