Rose Q. Hanson (nee Quarelli) born on January 19, 1918 in Winkleman, AZ, passed away on October 6, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona. Rose is survived by her children, Kathy (Stephen), Cindy (John) and Jim (Jason); grandchildren, Madeleine, Sam, Tanner and Cloe, and countless nieces and nephews and their children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester (Tess) Hanson; her brother and six sisters. Rose graduated from the UofA in 1939 and taught school until she married Tess in 1941. They lived for a short time in Arizona and Minnesota and then spent almost 20 years in Bolivia, Chile, and Liberia where Tess worked in mining. When Kathy was ready for school they moved stateside and eventually settled in Tucson in 1963 where Tess continued to work in the mining industry. Rose was a long standing member of the Tucson community including her church, St. Francis De Sales, where she was Eucharistic Minister and part of the Women's group. She will be fondly remembered for the 'ugly cookies' she baked for every bake sale. For over 13 years Rose was a volunteer for the Diocese of Tucson Detention Ministry, praying the Rosary and visiting with women in prison. She talked a lot about this program and her heart went out to all the women she met there. Rose was also an active member of the TMC Auxiliary for over 20 years where she amassed over 8500 hours of service. Organizing the blood drives, making scrubbies to sell in the gift shop and knitting hats for newborns were her favorite activities. Rose was a joiner and wanted to be a part of it all including her Lunch Bunch, Desert Threaders and Rolling Hills golf groups. She was a great crafter including making Christmas stocking for every member of her large extended family, quilting, embroidering, crocheting, knitting; needlepoint and sewing. Rose learned to golf at the UofA and played until she was well into her 90's. Anyone who played with her, even for fun, knows she never took a 'gimme' and counted every wiff. Family and friends meant everything to Rose and even at 97 she was much sought after by both. Her children are eternally grateful for the love, patience, and storybook childhoods she gave us. She was quite a role model for all who knew her. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. (Rosary starts at 6:00 p.m.) Monday, October 12, 2015 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, Tucson. Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 1375 South Camino Seco, Tucson. Burial will follow at the Hayden, AZ Cemetery.
