Captain US Army Air Forces Veteran of World War II

John E. Meyers Sr., 82, of 134 Kilmer St., Pittsburgh, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2002, in the Beverly Health Care, Monroeville, Pa. He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Adelaide. He was the son of the late Edward J. and Anna Kleabish Meyers. He was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School Class of 1937. He was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology 1941, with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He was a retired engineer from the Union Swiss and Signal in Swissvale with 35 years of service. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II. On Aug. 7, 1941, he was an lieutenant engineering officer of a mobile repair and reclamation squadron 327th Service Group with the 9th Air Force in France. He received a promotion to captain in 1944. He was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh. He is survived by one son, John E. Meyers Jr. of Pittsburgh; also surviving one sister, Martha Hoover of Adelaide. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Ione Mimms Meyers in 1973. Private funeral service will be held Friday, March 15, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Elmer Reamer officiating of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are being handled by RICHARD KUCERA FUNERAL HOME, 127 E. Fairview Ave., Connellsville.
