When Charles R. Hale recorded grave inscriptions for Woodland Cemetery in 1916, he evidently saw a gravestone with "Co. H 127th NY on it. However, Hale wrongly thought that father Edward Oldrin Sr.' s birth and death dates (Feb 18 1802; Feb 20 1874), were also Edward Oldrin Jr's birth and death dates.
Edward Oldrin Jr. had two surviving children:
Julia E. Slater (c. 1869-1930)
Edward (c. 1871-?).
These children are both named in the Real Estate Proceedings of the estate of their grandmother Catharine Oldrin (1814-1887) in Brooklyn Surrogate Court records.
Edward is named in her original will as the recipient of her "silver watch." In 1888 in the Kings County Real Estate Proceedings (Vol 6 p. 50), Julia Oldrin is named an "infant of 18 years" and Edward Oldrin "an infant of 16 years," the former residing in Stamford CT and the latter in East Hampton CT.
In 1870 26-year old Edward was living in Bridgeport Connecticut with wife Jennie and daughter Julia although he is enumerated as "Edwin" born in Connecticut, which contradicts his NY Civil War Muster Roll Abstract, which lists his birthplace as NY. By 1880 Edward was already widowed. He and his 9-year old son, Edward Oldrin III, were living in Oyster Bay, NY. Daughter Julia is not enumerated as living with them; perhaps she was living with a female relative.
