Samuel Arthur Allawatt, 92, formerly of Bellview, passed away Saturday (Nov. 20, 2010) at Fairmont General Hospital.

Samuel was born Oct. 28, 1918 at Wyatt, son of the late Louis Allawatt and Rose (Guido) Allawatt. Samuel was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Samuel was a retired coal miner and former employee of Fairmont Street Department; veteran of U.S. Navy serving during World War II; member of NRA, Fairmont Moose and UMWA; and former member of Fairmont Elks and Fairmont American Legion. He loved gardening and flowers, raising pigeons and feeding the squirrels. He was Catholic by faith.

Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth Jane (Hyatt) Allawatt; several nieces and nephews, including Mary Rose Salentro of Shinnston, Beverly Vestpoint of Fairmont, Rose Postlethwait and husband Maurice, and Samuel Veltri and wife Nancy of Enterprise; sisters-in-law, Patricia Allawatt of Shinnston, and Helen Spano of Ohio; and stepsisters, Mary Hawker of Shinnston, and Catherine Spenia of Florida.

In addition to his parents, Samuel was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Arthur Allawatt; five sisters, Frances Rotunda, Mary Veltri, Julia Musumano, Terry Melio and Lillian Arcidiacono; nephew, Fred Salentro; stepmother, Rose Allawatt; stepbrother, Joe Spano; and stepsisters, Thresa Starkey, Virginia Carvelli and Elizabeth Baker.

Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont, from 1 to 2 p.m Tuesday. The funeral service will be in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Tuesday with Father Robert Perriello officiating. Entombment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Westover.
