Eleanor Gale Bowles , 74, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at her home. Born November 2, 1940, in Toledo, OH, she was the daughter of the late Howard William Drayton and Beatrice (Rideout) Drayton. Ellie was a veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. She was employed as a Registered Nurse for 50 years. In addition to serving in Vietnam as an Operating Room M.A.S.H. Unit nurse, she dedicated her nursing service to Kirk Army Hospital, Walter Reed Hospital Center, Washington County Hospital, Lutheran Hospital, the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services-office of Inmate Health Services, and retired from the State of Maryland. She was a member of the Joseph C. Herbert American Legion Post 222 of Clear Spring, Loyal Order of Eastern Star of Towson, the American Correctional Health Services Association, the American Correctional Association Academy of Correctional Health Professionals, the Certified Correctional Health Professional, Motor Maids, Inc. of Maryland, Red Feather Pocahontus Tribe 59, Disabled American Veterans, and the Womens Memorial at Arlington National Cemetery. Ellie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved riding her Harley Davidson.

Ellie is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Gary W. Bowles, of Hagerstown and her loving son, Shannon Christopher Bowles of Frostburg. Memorial services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015 at 7 p.m. at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home,Inc., 13607 National Pike, Clear Spring, Md. The Rev. Steven McCarty will officiate. The family will receive friends following the memorial service from 8 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Children- Boumi Temple, 5050 King Avenue, Rosedale, MD 21237.
