DERBY - Powers, Dr. Walter L., age 76, retired owner/chairman of the Seneca Healthcare Group, Wichita, died Saturday, August 12, 2006. Recitation of the Rosary, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Smith Mortuary, Derby, 1415 N. Rock Road. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Wednesday, St. Mary Faith Center, 2300 E. Meadowlark with interment following at El Paso Cemetery. Dr. Powers was born in Mineola, New York on July 13, 1930 and was a Korean War Veteran. He was a former public school teacher, coach, administrator and educational publishing company vice-president. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter, Sr. and Alice Powers; sister, Frances Fennessy and a daughter, Monica Jerkovich. Survivors are his beloved wife Clarice of the home; sons, Brian and Bruce and their families of Derby; daughters, Paula Traverzo and Erica Nance and families of Wichita, and daughter, Ruth Funk and husband of Lees Summit, MO; brother, James R.
