killed in Battle at the Battle of Boonsboro Gap
also known as South Mountain.

Son of Jacob Young Purvis and Charity McClelland.

Estimated 325 Confederate Soldiers were killed at Boonsboro Gap.

They were buried by Union Soldiers where they fell in battle in Trenches, as the Confederate Soldiers were retreating.

In 1869 Governor Bowie task that Confederate Soldiers be buried at a Federal Cemetery. In 1874 The Confederate Soldiers were buried in Washington Confederate Cemetery.

They were identified by where they fell in battle at Boonsboro Gap. Their were a small amount of the Soldiers identified by name. It was decided that their wouldn't be individual grave makers because so many were unidentified by name.
