She was a member of Indian River Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie R. Carter.
She is survived by a daughter, Mildred Young and her husband, Vernon, of Chesapeake; three sons, Charlie E. Carter and his wife, Gay, of Chesapeake, Harry C. Carter and his wife, Doris, of Chesapeake, and Sherman L. Carter and his wife, Alecia, of Suffolk; three sisters, Thelma Handy, Georgie Lawson and Lorene Bryant; a brother, Albert Layman; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at noon Thursday at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Indian River Chapel, by the Rev. Robert E. Jordan. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
