Marion and Sarah had 10 children with John being the youngest in the family.
John enlisted in the US Army 23 March 1962.
Upon arriving in Vietnam 19 March 1966, John was assigned to B Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, USARV. The battalion was participating in Operation Kailua in the vicinity of the Ho Bo Woods and 4 kilometers south southeast of Ben Suc in Hao Nghia Province. John was riding on a APC that was hit by a hostile antitank rocket and John died as a result of fragmentation wounds to the body.
SSgt Ardis served his country for 10 years.
Survived by his wife, Helga V Ardis and his son and daughter; John M and Karen L Ardis all of 231 McCartha Drive, Columbus, Georgia and his parents; Marion Watson and Sara Dubose Ardis of Route #2, Box 58, Manning, South Carolina and his brothers and sisters; Pearl Leora Rhodus, William Watson Ardis, Annie Eliza Bryant, Jeff Deschamps Ardis, Henry Lee Ardis, Cecil Victoria Anderson, Elizabeth A Maynard, Ruby Mary Wilson, Marion William Ardis, Franklin Ardis, Tora Richbourg and Linda Fay Ward.
