WORLD WAR I

Son of James William and Mary Rebecca Burch Ingle. Paul married (1) Theresa Ann Foy, and (2) Mary Elizabeth Harllee.

HIGH POINT - I. Paul Ingle, a stalwart for many years in the business, civic and religious life of High Point, died at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday in High Point Memorial Hospital. He had been in declining health for several months and a patient in the hospital for the past week.

In the 56 years since he moved to High Point he typlified "the busy man you call on when you need to get a job done." Most notably, he was recognized at every level for devoted service to the Boy Scots of America, to the YMCA. to First Presbyterian Church and in various fields of local government work."

Born May 25, 1894 in Alamance County, he was a son of James W. and Rebecca Burch Ingle. After schooling at Elon College he served with the army in Europe during World War I. After a brief fling in professional baseball, cut short by an arm injury, he acquired an interest in the Reidsville Paper Box Co. which had a branch plant in High Point. When the main plant moved to High Point in 1920, he moved and became president and general manager. A few years later he was an organizer and first president of Carolina Container Corp. which he directed until his retirement. At the time of his death he was president emeritus and chairman of the board.

He was married in 1944 to the former Mary Elizabeth Harllee of Marion, SC and they have one son, Paul Jr., who lives in Hickory.

Ingle's service to Scouting earned him the Uwharrie Council's Silver Beaver Award, the region's Silver Antelope Award and two years ago a special honor from the national organization recognizing 50 years of service.

At First Presbyterian Church he was a long time elder and trustee and for 30 years was on the trustee board of Glade Valley School.

He was a past president of Kiwanis, of the Executives Club, the Chamber of Commerce, both the United Fund and United Community the YMCA on whose board he served for 37 years. He served on the board of trustees of High Point Memorial Hospital; with the NC Committee on Nursing and Patient Care. on the Greensboro - High Point Airport Authority since 1966,as a member of the High Point Human Relations Commission and the High Point Redevelopment Commission. He was one of the earliest developers of the Three-Cities Development Committee which sired the present Piedmont Triad Council of Governments.

Surviving in addition to his wife and son are two brothers, Homer J. Ingle of Sarasota, Fla. and Norman C. Ingle of Salisbury; one sister, Mrs. B. J. Frazier of Greensboro; and 2 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. W. Kirk Allen.
