Services for William F. Downs, Sr., 76, of Whitehouse, will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Friendly Baptist Church with Rev. Pat Alvey officiating.
Burial will follow at Whitehouse Cemetery in Whitehouse under the direction of Stewart Family Funeral Home.
Mr. Downs passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015 in Tyler.
He was born August 21, 1939 in Pasadena to Robert L. and Emma Grace Francis Downs.
William was a member of Friendly Baptist Church. He was proud to have served his country in the US Army. William owned and operated Atlas Building Systems for 34 years. He enjoyed collecting records and movies and loved to travel, the high points being his three trips to Israel.
William was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kimberly Downs; grandson Daniel Jones; brother, Robert Downs; and sister Mary Parton.
He is survived by his loving family including wife of 53 years, Shirley Downs of Whitehouse; daughters Deborah Whitmore and husband Bud of Tyler, and Terri Warren and husband Kenneth of Van; son William Downs, Jr. and wife Angie of Whitehouse; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Dru Blake of Laport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert Downs, Willie Downs, Braxton Cooper, Van Kelley, Todd Martin and Mark Armintor.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cameron Cooper, Men of his Tuesday morning Bible Study at Cox's Grill.
Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Stewart Family Funeral Home, 7525 Old Jacksonville Highway, in Tyler.
