MYRTLE BEACH - Judge Marion Dunbar Myers died August 27, 2011, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Judge Myers was born January 17, 1939, in Sumter, South Carolina, the son of the late Marion and Nell Dunbar Myers. He is survived by his wife, Adele Marks Myers; a sister, Nan Bradham (Joe); his three children, Marion Parker Myers (Cathy), Leigh Myers Eddy (Scott), and Louise "Ceasie" Myers Johnson; five stepchildren, Sarah E. Diminich, Stephanie Diminich Lockhart (Ashe), Sam Diminich (Tracey), Alexandria Diminich and Megan Diminich; nine grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Judge Myers attended public school in Sumter and graduated in 1960 from Wofford College, where he was President of the Senior Class and a member of Blue Key, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, and the Kappa Alpha Order. He received his J.D. degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1963.

After finishing law school, Judge Myers returned to Sumter to practice law with the firm of Lee & Moise. When he later became a partner, the firm name was changed to Lee, Moise & Myers. While in private practice, Judge Myers served as a member of the Sumter County Planning Commission, a director of the Sumter Chamber of Commerce, a director of the Sumter Family YMCA, a member of the Sumter County Commission on Higher Education, a member of the Board of Directors of the Easter Seal Society, and a member of the Board of Directors of the University of South Carolina Education Foundation. He also served as Master in Equity for Sumter County.

In 1984, he was elected by the South Carolina General Assembly as Family Court Judge for the Third Judicial Circuit, serving continuously in that position until his retirement in 2004. During his tenure as a family court judge, Judge Myers served as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice-President, and President of the South Carolina Conference of Family Court Judges, a Hearing Master for the Board of Commissioners on Judicial Standards, a member of the South Carolina Judicial Council, a member of the Ad Hoc Committee to Study Judicial Compensation, a member of the Joint Commission on Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Chief Administrative Family Court Judge for the Third Judicial Circuit. At the time of his death, Judge Myers was a member of the South Carolina Commission on Indigent Defense.

Judge Myers was a past president of the Palmetto Rotary Club and a former deacon and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter. He received the Order of the Palmetto, this state's highest civilian honor, in 2004. Judge Myers and Adele moved to Myrtle Beach in September of 2010.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home located at 910 67th Avenue North, Myrtle Beach, on Wednesday, August 31 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. A service celebrating the life of Judge Marion Myers will be held on Thursday, September 1, at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, with Dr. Robert C. Wilkes Jr. officiating. Friends will be received at the Myers' home following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Judge Myers may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Myrtle Beach and the First Presbyterian Church in Sumter.
