May 12, 1952 - Oct. 26, 2015 J. Michael Phillips died suddenly on October 26, 2015 at the age of 63.

Born in Oneonta, AL on May 12, 1952, he was preceded in death by his parents, John Willard Phillips and Maxine Nix Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Fay Otts Phillips; his children, John Michael Phillips Jr. (Melissa) and Fay McCrary Phillips; and grandchildren William Ellsworth Barnes, V and John Michael Phillips, Jr., all of Mobile. Survivors also include his sisters Donna Phillips Tolbert (Jeff) and Debbie Phillips Murphree of Birmingham and brothers-in-law O. McCrary Otts III (Virginia) and Richard L. Otts (Elizabeth) of Mobile and several nieces and nephews.

Mike received a B.S. degree in Marketing from the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa. He earned an MBA from the University of South Alabama where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma academic honor society. He worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama for more than 30 years and was most recently employed by S. S. Nesbitt. During his professional career, he attended the Krannert Graduate School of Management at Purdue University, earning the designation of Certified Health Consultant. Mike grew up hunting birds with his father and remained an avid hunter and fisherman. He also was an accomplished high school athlete and an enthusiastic Alabama football fan his entire life. He was an active member of Spring Hill Presbyterian Church.

A graveside service will be held at Pine Crest Cemetery on Thursday, October 29 at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will follow at Springhill Presbyterian Church (10 Westminster Way, Mobile, AL 36608) in the Fellowship Hall at 11:00 A.M., with the service in celebration of his life at noon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Spring Hill Presbyterian Church or the charity of your choice .
