He married in 1784 to Susannah Margaret Horn born 1765 in PA. His father was John Hans/Hance Bowman born 1712 in Fredrick Co, MD and mother was Catherine Sparling born 1715 in MD.

In 1776 Daniel was living in Washington County Maryland. He migrated with his family from Maryland to Rutherford County Tennessee in 1808. He owned several tracts of land in Rutherford County and was a well respected farmer. It is noted that he rarely owned slaves. He was well educated and spoke two languages (English and German)and was very active in the Rutherford County area. He served as the Justice of the Peace, Commissioner and completed Jury Duty many times. He served on the election board in 1832 where he help to re-elect Andrew Jackson to the office of President of the United States of America. In his last will and testament he states that in his personal assets was the Bowman Family Bible given to him by his father John Bowman. Daniel made out his last will and testament on October 12th 1842 in Rutherford County Tennessee. His son Benjamin Ellis Bowman was written as executor but was crossed out and his son James Tennessee Bowman was written in. Daniel served in the Revolutionary War.
