Daniel was one of six children of Daniel P. Carrolton (Carlton) Sr. and Margaret Hart Carrolton. He was christened in October 1865 at St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral in Newark, NJ. In 1900 he lived at 20 Morton Street, Newark, Essex, NJ. By 1920 he was living at 55 Boston Street, Newark and working as a laborer. He never married and is buried in the same grave as his brother Patrick, not far from their parents.
