Alta Magnuson
The funeral will be held Dec. 20 for Alta Sarah Magnuson of Eugene, who died Dec. 25 of age-related causes. She was 93.
She was born Aug. 5, 1906, in Canby to Thomas and Ludmilla Hornback. She moved to the Eugene area in 1922 and graduated from Eugene High School in 1924. She married Leslie Newhouse, Sr. in Eugene in 1930. They divorced. She married Laurence Magnuson in Eugene on June 25, 1938. He died July 2, 1990.
Magnuson worked many yeas at Eugene Fruit Growers, retiring in 1963. Her interests included crocheting, flowers, gardening, cooking and knitting afghans. She had belong to Lighthouse Temple and the Church of Open Bible, now called the South Hills Assembly of God.
Survivors include a son, Leslie Newhouse, Jr. of Eugene; two stepdaughters, Sharon Glass of Hawaii and Nya Day of Ojai, Calif.; a stepson, Donald Newhouse of Hawaii; a brother, Ernest Hornback of Eugene; five sisters, Marjorie Reed of Coburg, Julia Speciale of Springfield, Billie Plath of Vida, and Blanche Price and Ethel Palanuk, both of Eugene; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A great-grandson, Tommy Carrier, died Oct. 16, 1980.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene. Thursday’s service will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to South Hills Assembly of God.
