George E. Brown Jr., age 67, of Washington Township, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 following an extended illness.

George went to Dixie and graduated from Brookville High School. He attended Eastern Kentucky University before joining the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam as a member of the 1st Infantry Division, (Big Red One). He earned two Bronze Stars for courageous acts during combat. George served as the police chief for the cities of Brookville and Riverside. He also worked at the DCIS and the Montgomery County Prosecutors Office. He also served as the Mayor of Brookville. George was the first commander of Brookville VFW Post #3288, proud member of the Masonic Lodge #596 and the Fraternal Order of Police. He was an extremely proud father and grand-pappy. George had a passion for cars and watching auto auctions on TV.

He was preceded in death by his father, George E. Brown Sr.; step-father, Mike Haworth; infant daughter, Stefanie Brown; brother, Richard Brown; and sister, Debbie Weaver.

George is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Melinda Brown; sons, Matthew (Kelli) Brown and Nathan (Aura) Brown; step-sons, B.J. (Sarah) Williamson and Todd (Sherri) Williamson; granddaughters, Madison, Kay-Lynn, Aubreigh, May-Lynn, Emma, Isabella, Lily and Gabriella; mother, Mary Haworth; mother-in-law, Faye Marie; brother, John Brown; step-brothers, Ron Haworth and Ed Cook; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 1, 2015 from 3-5 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home South Chapel (3940 Kettering Blvd, Kettering, OH 45439). The service will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.

Donations may be made in George’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
