Mette was christened Mette Sofie Kristensen Sindberg on 6 April 1874 in Holstebro, Hjerm, Ringkobing, Denmark. Her parents chose "Sindberg" as surname since all Denmark was changing from patronymic last names to proper surnames. Sindberg was Mette's father's step-father's last name. Mette's family left Denmark for USA in 1881. Mette married at a very young age of 14. She and her husband had 7 children, born in WI, KS, NE, and WA. Two children, James Lee Gormley and Jay S Gormley are not yet mentioned below.
