William was the 10th (of 11) children of John Cole and Susanna Hutchinson Cole. He was a farmer, having inherited the 600 acre farm from his father John Cole.

William married Ann Pinder about 1695. She was also from North Kingstown. They had 11 children:

Mary 1705 died 1750 North Kingstown
Hannah about 1709, death unknown
Susannah about 1710, death unknown
Samuel 1712, death unknown
William 1713, death unknown
Benjamin about 1716 died 1812 North Kingstown
Joseph L 1716 died 1812 North Kingstown
Ann 1718 died 1742 North Kingstown
Wignall 1721 died 1794, Nova Scotia (He was a Loyalist)

There is no identifiable grave stone at the site for William, although are many illegible stones. However, since this burial ground is located on land was owned by the Cole family, it is assumed that Will is buried here also.
