Corporal Eric Evine Sutphin, 40, of Christiansburg, died in the line of duty, Monday, August 21, 2006. Corporal Sutphin had over 13 years of law enforcement experience serving with Buchanan Police Department, Charlottesville City Police Department, Albermarle County Police Department, Fluvanna County Sheriff Department, and his final years with Montgomery County Sheriff Department. Corporal Sutphin also served seven years in the United States Army as a Military Police, from which he was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. During his military and law enforcement careers, Corporal Sutphin received numerous awards and commendations, including The Commonwealth of Virginia's Medal of Valor Award. Corporal Sutphin was the son of the late Frank A. Sutphin. He is survived by his mother, Jeaneen L. Sutphin; his wife, Tamara Sutphin and his twin daughters, Rachel and Emily Sutphin, all of Christiansburg. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, son and friend. May we never forget.
