She was born Oct. 14, 1910 in a log cabin in Aitkin, the only child of Allison P. and Alice (Mattson) Wilber. She graduated from Aitkin High School in 1929, and worked at various places in Duluth and Two Harbors. She married Oswald Ege in Virginia in the home of Rev. Bert Stanway and they made their home in Beaver Bay until moving to Grand Marais in 1951.
Melissa was employed at the Cook County North Shore Hospital in Grand Marais for 24 years as an LPN, EMT and ambulance attendant. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Order of Eastern Star.
Melissa is survived by her son, Duane (Joan) Ege of Grand Marais; grandson, David Ege; step grandchildren, Jessica Glaza, Dr. Nadine Maki and Dennis Dimka.
