The life of Joseph H. Mefford, Spanish War veteran and pioneer resident of Santa Ana, came to a close yesterday at his home at 1010 West Fifth street, after an illness of two weeks.
Mr. Mefford was born San Diego county in 1869, as his parents were concluding a journey by ox team from Arkansas to California. When he was three years old the family came to Santa Ana where, for the last 40 years, he has been active as a well driller.
Mrs. Laura J. Mefford, his widow, with Andrew Mefford, of Santa Ana, and Passmore Mefford, of Napa, are the surviving members of the family. There were no children.
The Rev. F. T. Porter, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate at the funeral services, which will be held at the Winbigler Mission Funeral home next Monday at 2.Pm. Interment will be in Fairhaven cemetery.
