Lumberton, North Carolina- Artye Grantham Atkinson, 87, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2015 in the Dixie Regional Hospital in St. George, UT. She was born on May 21, 1928 in Marietta, NC to Jasper and Bennon Grantham.
Artye graduated from Fairmont High School and received her LPN degree from Robeson Tech Community College. She worked as a nurse for 25 years in Lumberton and South Robeson Medical Clinic.
Artye married Joseph Lester “J.L.” Atkinson on December 31, 1948 and celebrated 40 years of marriage. She precedes in death her parents; husband, son; Jay; sisters: Beatrice Collins, Bruce Morgan; and brother, Jasper Grantham Jr. She leaves loving memories to her daughter, Sherri Lefkow and husband Jason; brother, Wyves Grantham; sisters: Flora Miller, Nell Bray; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Artye loved her Heavenly Father and church family of Oakton Baptist Church. She was dedicated serving on many committees and teaching Sunday school classes. She filled her life devoted to her family, special friends, bridge clubs, growing beautiful flowers, knitting and reading.
