Alphonse English, 77, Waite Park Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Waite Park, for Alphonse F. English, 77, 47 Second St. N, Waite Park, who died Monday at St. Cloud VA Medical Center. The Rev. Ron Weyrens will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services Thursday at the church in Waite Park. Arrangements were made by Williams Funeral Home.
Alphonse English was born Oct. 29, 1917, in Sartell to John and Catherine English. He married Viola K. Thelen May 27, 1946, in St Cloud and had been employed as a bookbinder for many years before retiring in 1982. He was a Waite Park City councilman from 1968 to 1985, U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and a 20-year member of U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was a member of St. Cloud VFW Post 428, Waite Park American Legion Post 428, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 622, Waite Park Senior Citizens and Waite Park Boosters.
Survivors include daughter and son, Sandie English-Baldwin, Minneapolis; Thomas, Palmer, Alaska; and sister, Bernette Bohlsen, Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nov. 18, 1994; daughter, Patty, July 24, 1980; and brothers, Arthur and Richard.
