David Eugene Byars, 86, of Alma died Friday, Oct 8 1999 at his home. He and his wife owned and operated David E. Byars Clothing Store in Alma for 25 years. He was a member, deacon and treasurer of First Baptist Church. He was a former member of Alma City Council, Alma Lions Club and retired volunteer fireman. He was a 50-year member and past Master of Alma Lodge No. 735, and member and past Patron of New Alma OES. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the Battle of the Bulge.

He is survived by his wife, Eddie Rue Byars; two sisters, Cora Crigler of Fort Smith, and Caroline Cate of Oak Ridge, TN; and one brother, G. W. "Chubb" Byars of Fort Smith
