My grandmother was born in Chicago, the daughter of Dowell Arnold & Elsie Martha Hartman Canon. She graduated from Calumet High School and receiving her teaching degree from Oregon Normal School in 1931. Grandma taught school in Texas and Colorado. She met my grandfather, Arthur C. Oswald, Sr. at the 1934 World's Fair following a family tradition started by her parents who had met at the 1893 World's Fair. My grandparents were married June 1, 1935 but later divorced after 25 years of marriage. Their marriage produced three children: daughter Lane Alice and sons Arthur Charles, Jr. and Stewart Allen, who would grow up to become my Daddy. After divorcing Art, Sr., she married Carl Branch on May 16, 1961. Grandpa Carl died in January 1987.
Grandma was preceded in death by her son, Stewart; husband, Carl; daughter-in-law, Jodine, her parents and her brother, Hartman Canon. She is survived by her children Lane (Ted) and Arthur, Jr (Linda); her grandchildren, Venee, Dara (Ralph), Laran (Jim), Ted, Tim, Denise (Mark), Robin (Steve), Arthur III, Stewart (Chrissie), Heather, and Ann; as well as several great-grandchildren.
