He was married, January 1st 1900 to Anna C., the daughter of Jacob and Lena Spyer Nink, who died in 1905. They had two children:

Hiram Magruder, born in Peters, Texas, July 1st, 1903.
Dr. John W. Leonard, in 1908, married a second wife, Hattie Owens. They had two children:
Mertie Zelder [sic], born in Midland County, Texas, June 22nd, 1909.
Joe Ragsdale, born in Midland County, Texas, November 21st, 1911.
