From 1914-1917 he built Thorne Oaks in Morristown, New Jersey as a summer home; designed by Delano & Aldrich. It is on the National Register of Historic Sites. His wife sold it shortly after his death. It is now home to the Morristown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

The building took two years to build; the year 1912 in Roman Numerals is displayed in the concrete above the entrance door. "
