"Frederic A. Prisley, of Arlington, Virginia, formerly of Sarasota, died December 25th 1983 in Northern Virginia Doctors Hospital. He was born, June 24, 1897, in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, attended schools in Lawrence, Massachusetts, and in 1917, joined the staff which formed the Harvard Base Hospital Unit #5 that served overseas in France during the duration of World War I. He was in Paris for Armistice Day, November 11, 1918, when President Woodrow Wilson was there for the signing and the Parade.
"After the war, Mr. Prisley enrolled at the University of Vermont, and graduated with honors in 1923 with a BS Degree in Chemistry. For forty years, Mr. Prisley was associated with the Textile business in New England, with American Woolen Co., Hayward-Schuster Woolen Co., and Watson Park Co., and then from 1952 until his retirement in 1962, he was Head Chemist for the Raeford Division for Mens Wear in Burlington Industries in Brookneal and Clarksville, Virginia.
"Mr. Prisley was a member of the Episcopal Church, Kappa Sigma fraternity, The American Society for Testing Materials, and The American Association for Textile Chemists and Colorists.
"While in retirement in Sarasota after 1962, He was active in the Project Manasota 88, and served for 10 years on the Air and Water Pollution Control Advisory Board and Mining Committee.
"He leaves his wife of sixty years, Gladys Post Prisley, of Arlington, a son, Captain John P. Prisley, USN(ret), of Harpers Ferry, West Va., a daughter, Mrs. Harry C. Rockefeller, of Alexandria, Va., six grandchildren, and one great-grand-child, of Brookneal, Va.
"A memorial service was held at Grace Episcopal Church, Alexandria, Va., on December 28, 1983.
"Internment will take place in Sarasota at a time to be announced. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Wilfred's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, Sarasota, or to The Healing Mission of St. Boniface Episcopal Church, on Siesta Key."
