AND GREAT-GRANDFATHER

Ray Dean Lowe, 90, of Fullerton, California, died peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on September 9, 2015. Ray was born on April 8, 1925, in Providence, Cache County, Utah, the fifth of seven children of Alfred Budge and Arlean Jessop Low. He spent the first 18 years of his life in Cache Valley, graduating from South Cache High School in 1943.

He spent the next 3 years in the US Army during World War II, landing in Normandy, France, on D Day+7, serving as a tank gunner in the 6th Armored Artillery in General Patton's Third Army. He participated in many major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of the Buchenwald Concentration Camp.

Ray returned home from the war and married Helen Mae Leishman, his lifelong sweetheart, on March 5, 1946, in the Logan Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They spent the next 8 years obtaining an education, graduating first from Utah State University, and then from the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco, California. He practiced dentistry for over 35 years, first in Salt Lake City, and then, starting in 1957, in Anaheim, California.

Ray was very active in the LDS Church and served in many capacities, including Bishop, Patriarch and Sealer in both the Los Angeles and the Newport Beach temples. A long-time supporter of the Boy Scouts of America Orange County Council, Ray was awarded the Silver Beaver for distinguished service. After they retired, Ray and Helen realized a long held dream by serving a mission together to Bangkok, Thailand, in 1989-1990.
