Hezekiah Burkhart Davidson was a son of Hezekiah Davidson, Jr. (1830-1910) and Ellen S. Haslet (1837-1910), Pioneers who came to Oregon Territory in 1847 with the Burkharts, who were friends. Young Hezekiah was a 1st generation Oregonian, born in Benton County in the Oregon Territory on December 30th, 1856. He was given the middle name of Burkhart in honor of his aunt, Melissa Ann Davidson (1835-1898), who had married Leander Columbus Burkhart (1823-1875) in Oregon in 1851. Leander and Melissa had six children of their own; their first born child, a son born in 1853, was named Hezekiah Davidson Burkhart, in honor of Melissa's father. [There are at least seven Hezekiah Davidsons, going back to 1705 in Scotland in my family's tree, that I am aware of. There is another Hezekiah Burkhart Davidson, b.1832 in Warren, Kentucky].
Young Hezekiah Burkhart Davidson joined his father in farming in Polk County, Oregon and married young Josephine Edna Hall (b.1861) on April 28th, 1879. She joined her new husband on their farm in Buena Vista, Polk County, Oregon, just two farms away from his parents' farm. Their daughter, who they named Josie Ednae Davidson, was born on May 26th, 1884. His beloved wife, Josephine "Josie" Edna Hall Davidson, died just two days later on May 28th, 1884. Her husband, his family and her family were devastated by her loss at the age of 23 years. She was buried at Buena Vista Cemetery, Buena Vista, Polk Co., Oregon and her grieving husband tried to determine what would be best for his newborn daughter. Her headstone says, in part, "Tred Lightly for the ground is Holy" and "Farewell". After much prayerful consideration, he married Addie Hall, b.1865 and Josie's 1st cousin, who also loved the baby and her cousin, Josie Edna Hall. Addie cared for the baby and did all of the chores her cousin would have done while she was alive. Tragically, little Josie Ednae Davidson died October 31st, 1884 at the age of 5 months and 5 days, such a brief life. She was buried near her dear mother who had died just 5 months and 2 days earlier. Addie continued to help Hez work the farm but she also was fated to live a short life for Addie died on November 8th, 1890, at the age of 25 years. She was buried near her cousin and niece at Buena Vista Cemetery. Hez joined his parents who had moved to Pomeroy, Garfield Co., Washington to be near his sister, Ella Vista, who had died in 1885. In 1900, he was living with his parents and was a city policeman. He had appendicitis and peritonitis set in, causing his death on May 10th, 1906. He was buried at the Pomeroy City Cemetery which held the remains of his sister, Ella Vista, and her two children, Ralph and Olga, who had died the same year as their mother. May they All Rest in Peace.
