From page 20 of the 1880 book, “Pioneers of Scioto County” by, James Keyes …
…Philip Noel, the father of the subject of the present sketch, settled about five miles from Portsmouth, and raised a large family of children. Their names were Peter, Solomon, Jacob P., John, Mary, Catharine, Isaac, David, Absalom, Margaret, Aaron, Elijah. He lived to be 86 years old.
Peter Noel, his brother, settled Pond Creek and likewise had a large family: Jacob, John, Peter the 2nd, Margaret who married David Roop, Abram G., Daniel, Susanna who married Seth Grimes, Philip, Isaac, Solomon, Andrew, George and James –13 in all.
Nicholas Noel, another brother, settled up about Camp Creek. He had a large family of children also, but we could not ascertain their number.
The three families, when they were all here in their prime, were the most numerous and exerted the most powerful influence of any family in Scioto County. They were industrious and thrifty in their habit, and generally accumulated considerable property. Some of them died quite wealthy.
