He was a retired furniture store employee and a Charleston resident for 41 years. He was a deacon of the First Baptist Church and a member of Washington Lodge No. 4 AF &. AM.
Surviving are two stepsons, David and James Fields, both of Charleston; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Grace Rice of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Smith of Brookneal, Va.; and a brother, Joseph of Dayton, O.
The body is at the Harden and Harden Funeral Home.
