Dora was born in San Luis, Oriente, Cuba. Her mother was Aurelia Matos. Dora married Dimas Celestino Mendez Abreu at the age of 15 on May 8, 1919 in Matanzas, Matanzas, Cuba. He died in Cuba on March 26, 1964. Their children were Jose Angel, Elisa Dora, and Rosa. Dora entered the United States through the port of Miami on June 10, 1968.
