Ms. Sallie Merida, Age 84, of Barbourville, passed away on November 11, 2015 at the Knox County Hospital. She was born May 14, 1931 to the late John and Viola (Hensley) Owens. She united in marriage to Burgess Farmer, March 8, 1947 and he preceded her in death in December 1964. She later united in marriage to Delmer Reed Merida on March 25, 1967, and he preceded her in death in January, 1978. She also is preceded in death by a son, Delmer Allen Merida, and brothers and sisters, Leda Back, Vesta Owens, Johnny, Lathern, Frank, Henley, Luther, Ernest, Sam, and Jim Tom Owens, Jerrie Hammarstrong and Frances Willis.
Sallie was a member of Callihan Baptist Church, and was a caregiver, last working as an aid for Boone Manor Nursing Home. She loved the Lord, fishing and her family. Sallie left an impression on everyone she met.
Surviving are her sons, Donald Lee (Sandy) Farmer , John W. (Carol) Farmer, Burgess Dwight (Paulette) Farmer, daughters, Barbara Turner, and Leda Lynn Gray, all of Gray,Kentucky , a sister, Jessie Meadows of Dayton, Ohio, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:oo pm Sunday, at Hopper Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon Morris and Rev Tony Jackson officiating, with burial following in the Owens Family Cemetery at Gray. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 pm Saturday and after 10 am Sunday.
