On Wednesday, 11 November 2015, Jan Everett Hendrix, 72 years old, passed away of cancer in Cayucos, California.
He was born on Wednesday, 22 September 1943 in Monrovia, California and was the son of Joseph Everett Hendrix and Elizabeth Hendrix.
Jan graduated from San Luis Obispo High School, Class of 1961.
In 1964 he served in the United States Navy as a Signalman Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Lynde McCormick, a guided missile destroyer and was sent to the Gulf of Tonkin during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge in 1967, Jan returned home to San Luis Obispo, California.
Jan worked his way through school, earning an A.A. degree in Business from Cuesta College in 1970 and a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts from Cal Poly in 1980.
During part of his college studies, from 1968 to 1974, he worked as a firefighter, fire supervisor and Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal for the South Bay Fire Department in Los Osos, California.
In 1984 he went to work for the San Luis Obispo County Agriculture Department as a Weights and Measures Inspector.
Jan met Sylvia Wilburn in 1983 and the couple married in April of 1985 and celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in Yosemite in the spring of 2015.
Mr. Hendrix is survived by his wife, Sylvia Wilburn; brother, Bob Hendrix.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Everett Hendrix and Elizabeth Hendrix.
