Sister was born to John and Mary (Reusse) Christie. Sister Joannes is survived by her loving sister, Sister Mary Etheldreda, R.S.M., nieces Cathy (Wayne) Roberts and Dorothy Ann (George) Kinsley and grandnieces and grandnephews. Dr. Christie, R.S.M. established and was the long-time Chair of the English Department at Mercy College, which has developed into the Department of Literature, Language and Communication. Around Shakespeare's birthday an annual celebration of the Christie Lecture Series takes place in her honor. Her early years of service also included teaching at St. Simon Stock and Good Shepherd Schools in NYC, as well as Our Lady of Victory Academy in Tarrytown, NY.In her retirement years Sister Joannes volunteered at St. Cabrini Nursing Home and later resided at Our Lady of Mercy Health Care Center in Worcester, MA until April 2006.
