Arlie was born on January 23rd, 1927, the only child of Arthur and Vera (Mikkelson) Borgen. He graduated from Chetek High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946.
On April 18, 1948 he married Arvena Lundholm at Chetek and they raised 5 children. Arlie was a farmer, then later a rural letter mail carrier serving the towns of Hillsdale & Chetek in his twenty plus year career, retiring in 1992. He was an active member of the county and state National Rural Letter Carriers Association where he served two terms as WI State President. Attending many national conventions, Arlie enjoyed serving as a WI State Delegate. Arlie shared with his family his love of sports especially the Chicago Cubs, Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. In his retirement years, he worked at the Pine Crest Golf Course in Dallas. He enjoyed many rounds of golf, including two holes-in-1!, along with wintering in Arizona.
Arlie was preceded in death by his parents and an infant grandson. He is survived by his wife: Arvena of New Richmond, children: Barbara Weisser of New Richmond, Bruce (Judy) Borgen of New Richmond, Janet (Steve) Miller of Brooklyn Park, MN, Brian (Anita) Borgen of Delavan, WI, & Sandy (Scott) Anderson of Golden Valley, MN, sisters-in-law: Laverna (Bill) Thompson of Chetek, Jean (Bill) Labude of Lexington, KY, Fern Lundholm of Bella Vista, AR, brother-in-law: Douglas (Loretta) Lundholm of Eau Claire, 12 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be (were) held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 21st at Chetek Lutheran Church with Rev Guy Redfield officiating. Visitation will be (was) held for the hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Internment, with military honors, will be at the Dallas Cemetery. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the compassionate care Arlie received at both Our House and The Deerfield Assisted Living in New Richmond. A special thank you to his granddaughter, Jessi Raymond, a hospice nurse for Interim Healthcare Hospice of Hudson, who showed such loving care and compassion for her grandfather in his last days.
